Dr. Garrett Smith secures $23,000 Grant from National Geographic Society Education Foundation

KENNESAW, Ga. (Oct 29, 2009) — On behalf of Kennesaw State University and the Georgia Geographic Alliance, Dr. Garrett Smith has secured a $23,000 Grant in support of the Georgia 2009/2010 Alliance Planning Grant project.

The goal of this National Geographic project is to ensure that 80% of all 18-year-olds in the United States are geographically literate by 2025. During the 2009/2010 program year, National Geographic will be conducting a series of activities with the goal of helping Alliance groups such as the Georgia Geographic Alliance initiate a formal strategic planning process in 2010. Funding from this grant provides financial resources for the Alliance to participate in these “preparing-to-plan” activities.
