Piece of the Berlin Wall on display next to the Social Sciences Building

KENNESAW, Ga. (Jul 20, 2009) — The plaque at the base of the wall reads:

The Berlin Wall separating West Germany and East Germany was erected on August 13, 1961. It became one of the most powerful and visible symbols of the Cold War. The fall of the wall in November 1989 prompted German reunification, which was completed on October 3, 1990. This piece of the wall was loaned to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kennesaw State University by Senator Chuck Clay, son of General Lucius D. Clay, Jr. and Betty Rose Commander.
