Now serving as the Development Director for the City of Acworth, Almodovar credits KSU’s MPA program with providing him the foundation, connections, and opportunities that shaped his path.

From Sports Management to Public Administration

Almodovar’s journey into public administration was not a conventional one. Initially, he pursued a degree in Sports Management at KSU, but as he explored different career options, he found himself drawn to local government and public service. That decision led him to the MPA program, where he discovered a passion for community development and leadership.

In an interview, Almodovar reflected on the pivotal role that KSU played in his success. “I would have never gotten to this level if I had not pursued my MPA, not only because of the educational aspect, but KSU’s MPA program gave me a foot in the door as an intern with the City of Powder Springs, which led to a full-time opportunity, which just allowed me to build from there.”

Climbing the Ranks in Local Government

After completing his MPA, Almodovar leveraged his experience and education to quickly advance in his career. His first break came through an internship with the City of Powder Springs, an opportunity that transformed into a full-time role. That experience opened doors for him to develop expertise in public sector management and urban development.

Today, as the Development Director for the City of Acworth, Almodovar plays a key role in shaping the city’s growth. He is responsible for overseeing strategic development initiatives, planning projects, and fostering economic growth—work that has earned him recognition in the field.

A Leader in His Community

Beyond his official role, Almodovar is dedicated to mentorship and community leadership. He has received the Next Generation Award from the Chamber of Commerce, recognizing his contributions to local government. Additionally, he serves as the Chair for the Northwest Industry Council, where he continues to advocate for economic and community development in the region.

Reflecting on his journey, Almodovar encourages current and prospective students to explore the broad opportunities that an MPA degree provides. “The MPA program is a game-changer,” he shared. “It prepares you for leadership in ways you might not expect. The connections, the hands-on learning, and the mentorship from professors who truly care—it all made a difference for me.”

An Inspiration for Future Leaders

Alex Almodovar’s dedication to public service and commitment to making a difference stand as an inspiration for current KSU students and fellow alumni. His journey underscores the power of the MPA program in shaping leaders who drive meaningful change in their communities.
