Why Mental Health Awareness
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (57.8 million in 2021).” When looking at the breakdown of their data, 33.7% of young adults between the ages of 18–25 is experiencing some kind of mental health challenge. This statistic alone is reason enough for 365 Days of Learning & Service to focus on mental health as the deep-dive issue for the 2023-2024 academic year. Mental health issues impact our primary reason for being at Radow College every day – our students. By examining the causes, understanding the impacts, connecting to support systems, and erasing the stigma attached to mental illness, we can find ways to mitigate impacts and better support our students. And it is not just students, when 20% of adults deal with a mental health issue every day, it is essential we pay attention to our faculty and staff, too.
