KENNESAW, Ga. (Oct 15, 2024) — Dr. Paul N. McDaniel, Associate Professor of Geography, has been elected Vice President of the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG), a two-year term that begins in November 2024 at the conclusion of this year’s SEDAAG annual meeting. As Vice President, Dr. McDaniel will play a crucial role in shaping the future of SEDAAG. His responsibilities include serving on the SEDAAG Executive Committee and contributing to key committee meetings; overseeing the annual Call for Papers and meeting program for the SEDAAG annual conference; managing the abstract submission system and reviewing submissions for the annual conference; and providing reports to the membership about the annual meeting program.

SEDAAG is a regional division of the American Association of Geographers (AAG), representing approximately 500 members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Established in 1947, SEDAAG exists to advance investigations in geography and to encourage the application of geographic findings in education, government, and business.  The Division supports these objectives by organizing an annual academic conference (traditionally held in November; the 2024 meeting is SEDAAG’s 79th conference); publishing a quarterly peer-reviewed journal (Southeastern Geographer, currently in volume 64); granting honors to faculty in recognition of excellence in teaching, service, and research; hosting educational and professional development workshops; and supporting undergraduate and graduate student paper and poster awards and an annual World Geography Bowl competition.

Dr. McDaniel’s election to this position, which represents significant professional service to the discipline of geography, is a testament to his servant leadership, research expertise, and commitment to the field of geography and geographic education here in the southeastern United States. Dr. McDaniel has previously served SEDAAG on the elected Executive Committee as Treasurer (2021-2023) and continues his service on the Southeastern Geographer editorial board, and as a moderator for the annual World Geography Bowl at SEDAAG.
