INCM Student Dlorah Jenkins Awarded a Critical Language Scholarship

 

KENNESAW, Ga. (Jul 29, 2016) — Dlorah Jenkins, a second year Ph.D. Student will be studying Swahili at the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation in Arusha, Tanzania from June 2 - July 31st. The program is designed to cover approximately one year of university-level language coursework over an 8-week period. It includes at least 20 hours of language training per week and one-on-one meetings with language partners for conversational practice. In addition to language training, Dlorah will be living with a host family and participating in cultural activities and excursions to expand her understanding of life, culture, history and politics in Tanzania.

The Critical Language Scholarship is a fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning.

Upon completion of the program, participants also receive a certified American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score.
