Dr. Jiayan Zhang receives the KSU Foundation Award for Outstanding Book
KENNESAW, Ga.
(Aug 19, 2016) — A professor of history, Jiayan Zhang received the 2016 KSU Foundation Award for Outstanding
Book, for Coping with Calamity: Environmental Change and Peasant Response in Central
China, 1736-1949 published by the University of British Columbia Press. Based upon
extensive archival research, this study analyzes the economic, social and environmental
history of the Jianghan Plain in Central China. The book has been recognized for its
contribution to our understanding of the history of the region.
