KENNESAW, Ga. (May 29, 2013)Tom Okie, the departments newest History Education faculty member (joining us in August), was announced last week as the winner of the Allan Nevins Dissertation Prize, given by the Society of American Historians for the best-written doctoral dissertation in American history. Dr. Okie's dissertation is titled "Everything is Peaches Down in Georgia: Culture and Agriculture in the American South."

Edie Reihm, who has taught U.S. history for us for several semesters, is the winner of Georgia State's John M. Matthews Distinguished Dissertation Award. Dr. Reihm's dissertation is titled "Forging the Civil Rights Frontier: How Truman's Committee on Civil Rights Set the Agenda for Liberal Reform, 1947-1965."
