Anna Weinstein is Assistant Professor of Screenwriting and Coordinator of the graduate certificate in Screen and Television Writing. Her research and creative work focuses on writing for film and television, women’s representation in film and television, and industry studies. She mentors MAPW students on capstone projects ranging from feature screenplays to pilot scripts to screenwriting research thesis papers. Anna is editor of the PERFORM: Succeeding as a Creative Professional book series (Routledge) and SCREEN STORYTELLERS series (Bloomsbury). She serves as secretary of the international Screenwriting Research Network (SRN) and co-chair of the Film area for the Popular Culture Association. Anna’s screenplay projects include a limited series based on the life of Georgian author, Lillian E. Smith, and an adaptation of Richard Chase’s “The Jack Tales” for producer Robert Mitas (Ratched) with Jay Russell (The Water Horse) attached to direct. Her most recent book is Writing Women for Film & Television: A Guide to Creating Complex Female Characters (Routledge, 2023).
