DFL Undergrads Present at National Conference
Andrew Hill and Mia Jordan presented their research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research 2019, Hosted by Kennesaw State
KENNESAW, Ga. (Apr 17, 2019) — The Department of Foreign Languages celebrates two undergraduate scholars who recently presented at the 2019 National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
Biology and Modern Languages and Cultures-Italian Major Andrew Hill presented his research on the impact of learning a foreign language on KSU students' views on immigration, for which he was mentored by Dr. Andrea Scapolo, in a poster presentation on Friday, April 12. In addition to his research accomplishment, Andrew was just accepted in a fully funded study abroad program held by the University of Milan, which he applied to under the supervision of Ms. Renata Creekmur, and is planning to continue his studies of the Italian language and culture in Italy over the summer.
Music major and Italian Studies Minor Mia Jordan presented her research on gendered expressions in the Italian language, for which she was mentored by Dr. Federica Santini, in a poster presentation held on Thursday, April 11. Following her presentation, Mia was invited by Dr. Maureen Melita of Marist College, who is hosting the 2019 AATI (American Association of Italian Studies) International Conference, to present her work in a panel on gender and language politics at AATI. Mia is the first undergraduate scholar to have ever been invited to present her work at AATI, and the Association will support her through a special grant which will cover all traveling and lodging expenses.
