Critical Languages Program

We live in a multilingual world and a even a multilingual country, with approximately 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 300 of them just in the United States!

The Critical Languages Program is designed to meet the need for instruction in languages deemed critical by the U.S. government. The basic language courses emphasize speaking and aural comprehension at the introductory and intermediate levels while a writing component is incorporated at the advanced level. Course offerings vary from year to year depending upon demand.

Courses are not open to native speakers of the language, who are instead encouraged to apply to become tutors in the World Languages Resource Collection.
