Minor in Spanish
The Spanish Minor will allow you to develop linguistic and intercultural communication skills in the second most widely-spoken language in the world. In the U.S., Spanish is rising ahead of any other non-English language at a rapid pace, with a steady flow of new immigrants from Latin America and growth in the already large Hispanic population. According to a Pew Research Center report, an estimated 37.6 million people in the U.S. speak Spanish as their first language and analysts predict the Latino population will reach approximately 128.8 million by 2060, likely making it the largest Spanish speaking country in the world. By adding a Spanish Minor to majors in business, health sciences, education, and communication, you will be prepared for job opportunities in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, you will have the opportunity to study the literature of such distinguished authors as Cervantes, Neruda, García Márquez, Castellanos, and Vargas Llosa and enjoy the films of Almodóvar, Cuarón, Del Toro and Iñárritu.
